Firstly, people do have renewable energy facilities but they may not be using the whole power being generated in their facility. Through net metering, they are facilitated by receiving full value for the energy/electricity they produce without installing any expensive storage systems and devices. Secondly, the overall cost of installation given by the consumer is minimized by the use of net metering by the elimination of any further need for a second energy meter. Lastly, the major use of net metering is that it provides a simpler, cost effective and easily administered mechanism and facility in order to encourage the local people and individuals towards the use of small-scale renewable energy systems, which in the longer run, provide advantage at the local, national and ultimately global level towards economy and the environment.
